Trip Overview

This 4 Days Wildlife Safari to Murchison Falls National Park with a stopover at Ziwa rhino sanctuary. You then proceed to the park for your wildlife experience. Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda’s biggest savannah park located in the northern part of the country. The park has a very diverse profile of wildlife and is the only national park that gives you access to all the big 5 game animals in Uganda. In the park we find the world’s strongest water fall called Murchison falls or Kabalega falls that flows on Victoria Nile dividing the park into two parts and it flows into lake Albert. The park is one of Uganda’s best game viewing parks and shouldn’t miss out on your travel list while coming to visit Uganda.

Day 1: Transfer to Murchison falls National Park and Ziwa rhino sanctuary.

You will be picked up from the hotel early in the morning after your breakfast and set off for Murchison Falls National Park. On your way to the park, you will branch off to Ziwa rhino sanctuary. In Nakasongola District, near Nakitoma Village is where you will get a moment to track these beautiful animals. The white Rhinos became extinct in Uganda’s national parks in 1980, but conservationists and the government through Uganda wildlife authority took the few that had remained and transferred them to the sanctuary for better protection. There are about 18 rhinos in the sanctuary at the moment and there is a plan to reintroduce them in Uganda’s game parks in the future.

Lunch will be at the sanctuary before proceeding to the Murchison falls national park. Later when you reach your lodge, freshen up, and head for an evening game drive. After seeing the beautiful sunset “sundowner”, you will head back to your lodge for dinner and relaxation till overnight.

Day 2: Morning Game Drive and afternoon Boat Cruise

After an early morning cup of hot tea / coffee, you will leave for an early morning game drive looking for the early morning riser.  As you head out for the game drive, you will be in position to spot animals like the buffaloes, elephants, lions, leopards, hyenas, Rothschild giraffes, Oribi, Kobs and waterbucks together with some bird species along the way with some feeding together with the big animals.

After you will head back for breakfast and rest at the lodge till lunch is served. In the afternoon you head for a Boat ride along the Victoria Nile to the bottom of the falls.  This Boat ride on River Nile goes for 3 hours and you will be able to see some Nile crocodiles, numerous hippos, as well as various bird species. You will then return for dinner and the overnight at the lodge.

Day 3: Morning Game Drive and afternoon nature walk in Budongo Forest.

On this beautiful morning, you will head for a morning game drive in search for animals like the lions, leopards, buffaloes, elephants, hyenas, Rothschild giraffes, Oribi, Kobs and waterbucks. The park also has some bird species like Gray crowned crane, Giant Kingfisher, Giant Heron, Shoebill stork, Abyssinian Ground Hornbills, Nightjars, Marabou stork, Black headed lapwing, Back-bellied Bustard and many more. Later you will head for lunch at your lodge as you prepare for the evening nature walk in Budongo Forest.

Later in the evening, you will drive south wards to Budongo forest with is home to the mahogany, tree species, birds as well as primates. Budongo Forest is home to some 600-700 chimpanzees together with other primate species, basing of researchers.

chimpanzee trekking is one of the activities done in the forest, and a permit costs 130 USD per person for foreign non-residents, 120 USD per person for foreign residents and 85 USD per person for East African citizens.

You will have a nature walk to explore the beauty of this eco-friendly forest with thick trees and a lot of scenic views. Later you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Top of the falls visit and transfer to back to Kampala

On this day, you have breakfast and head to the top of the falls where you will view it from above. At the top of Murchison Falls “also known as Kabalega Falls”, the Nile forces its way through a gap in the rocks that is only 8 meters wide, and tumbles 43 meters before flowing westward into Lake Albert. Later you will drive out of the park through the southern gate with a stopover in Masindi town for lunch, and then embark on your journey to back to Kampala reaching in the evening and be dropped at your hotel or Entebbe International Airport for your flight back home.
